Kitchen remodels are a popular aspiration for Prescott homeowners. The homes in this area are older and as a result the kitchens are on the smaller side. With that, we have created a list of our Top 5 Small Kitchen Layouts, their benefits, and how to make each utilize its space most efficiently.

1. One Wall Kitchen

The simplest layout a kitchen can be would be the one wall kitchen. This layout helps a smaller home with limited space maintain an open concept living and kitchen area. With the lack of storage, it is important how you utilize the cabinets, counter space, and placement of appliances. A one wall kitchen, though small, can be extremely efficient for a home cook. With the range, sink, and refrigerator all in one line it allows ease of movement when designed correctly. Placing the refrigerator on the very end of the wall, the sink in the middle, and the range on the opposite end creates a safe and easy clean up flow to the kitchen. Opting for taller cabinets, that will make use of all the wall space up to the ceiling, will give visual appeal and add that much needed storage.

2. Galley Style Kitchen

If an open concept is not your thing this kitchen layout is for you. A galley kitchen is a 2 walled, narrow, enclosed space. With a Galley kitchen there are 2 main avenues of design to choose from. First, being the symmetrical design. This is extremely popular among professional chefs as it is one of the most efficient kitchens to cook in. The symmetry of appliances on both walls gives the optimal triangle of sink, range, and fridge for maximum workflow. Second being asymmetrical, ideal for large families or those who just need maximum storage space. This design would essentially be a one walled kitchen with the opposing wall being lined with all cabinets and shelving. Either way a Galley is a classic kitchen layout perfect for smaller homes, maximizing space, and workflow.

3.  U-Shaped Kitchen

The U-shaped Kitchen is one of the most popular layouts for a kitchen all over the world. This is because of how much counter and storage space you can achieve even in a small home.  The fact  there’s 2 corners gives tremendous amount of under counter storage while also giving ample amounts of counter space. This style kitchen is perfect for families. There is more standing room than a Galley style yet can still be closed off from the living area enough to hide the mess of the day. With a U-shaped Kitchen, the sink, range, and refrigerator are separated on their own walls. This allows for multiple cooks in the kitchen without feeling overcrowded or getting into each other’s way.

4. L-shaped Kitchen

The L-shaped kitchen, like the one wall layout, allows for an open concept in a smaller home. A major benefit of the L-shape design is that it creates more counter and storage space, with adding the corner creating the L. Many older homes have a small kitchen and small dining space that is separated by a wall. A solution to this design is knocking down the wall expanding the kitchen into the dining room. This makes the eating space less formal in the kitchen itself. An L-shaped kitchen is a great design to modernize an older home and create that open floor concept. Again, like the one wall kitchen, the L-shape kitchen can lack storage space. It is ideal to smartly utilize the whole wall up to the ceiling with visually appealing cabinets and open shelving storage.

5. G-Shaped Kitchen

Finally, the G-shaped kitchen. This design is essentially the U-shaped kitchen with an added peninsula for more storage and counter space. This layout is perfect for families and those who need a lot of area for food prep. This layout can be open concept while not sacrificing storage and counter space. With the peninsula doubling as an eat in kitchen you can create a space that is functional for family life and entertaining.
